Insurance companies’ capital investments have increased
Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2021-05-31 9.30
In the first quarter of 2021, the market value of insurance companies’ investment assets rose to SEK 6 027 billion; this can be compared with SEK 5 661 billion at the end of the previous quarter, and SEK 4 982 billion at the end of the first quarter of 2020. Large net investments and continued positive stock market development contributed to the increase.
The quarter in brief
- Net investments in this industry amounted to SEK 97 billion in the quarter.
- Holdings in shares and participations was the type of asset with the largest value increase in the quarter; the value rose by SEK 343 billion, mainly due to net investments of SEK 72 billion and a positive stock market development.
- The market value of holdings in debt securities showed little change during the quarter.
Life insurance companies
- Life insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 5 407 billion at the end of the first quarter, up by SEK 332 billion from the previous quarter.
- This increase came in part from the companies’ net investments of SEK 88 billion.
Non-life insurance companies
- Non-life insurance companies’ investment assets amounted to SEK 620 billion at the end of the first quarter, up by SEK 33 billion from the previous quarter.
- Net investments by these companies amounted to SEK 9 billion in the quarter.
