At the end of February, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 272 billion, down by SEK 12 billion from January.

Increased liabilities in bonds and decreased liabilities in money market instruments

  • At the end of February, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 272 billion, of which bonds accounted for 82 percent and money market instruments accounted for 18  percent.
  • During the month, liabilities decreased in money market instruments by SEK 86, while the liabilities in bonds increased by SEK 74 billion.
  • The liabilities denominated in Swedish Kronas decreased by a total of SEK 48 billion, while it increased in liabilities denominated in foreign currencies by SEK 36 billion.  
  • The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was -1,9 percent in February, an increase by 1,4 percentage points from January.

Decreased borrowing by Sveriges Riksbank in February

  • In February, it was Sveriges Riksbank that accounted for the largest decrease in debt securities, with total debt decreasing by SEK 72 billion.
  • The central government (via Riksgäldskontoret) also decreased their debt securities in February, a decrease by SEK 56 billion.
  • Monetary financial institutions, on the other hand, increased their debt securities, with total debt increasing by SEK 99 billion.

Maturity structure

  • Debt securities valued at SEK 1 445 billion will reach maturity within six months, excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank. Around 64 percent of these are denominated in foreign currency.
  • Debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for 66 percent of the total maturity value within six months (excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank), of which the majority is issued in foreign currency.

Green debt securities

  • Green debt securities amounted to SEK 1 013 billion in February, up by SEK 3 billion from January.
  • Monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase during the month, SEK 6 billion.
  • Monetary financial institutions are still the largest issuer of green debt securities, in total of SEK 473 billion. However, local government issue the largest share of green debt securities in relation to their total outstanding amount (37 percent).
