Borrowing in debt securities decreased

At the end of July, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 8 906 billion, down by SEK 60 billion from June. This decrease is mainly due to decreased borrowing in euros during the month for bonds and money market instruments.

Developments in July 2022 in brief

Decreased liabilities in debt securities denominated in euro

  • At the end of July, liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 8 906 billion, of which bonds accounted for 80 percent and money market instruments accounted for 20 percent.
  • Liabilities in debt securities decreased for bonds and increased for money market instruments respectively by SEK 71 billion and SEK 11 billion.
  • Total liabilities decreased by SEK 132 billion for debt securities denominated in euros, of which SEK 82 billion in bonds and SEK 50 billion in money market instruments. This decrease was in part the effect of a stronger Swedish krona, although it was also due to net maturity during the month.
  • The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 3.3 percent, down by 1.1 percentage points compared with June.

Decreased borrowing for non-financial corporations

  • In July, non-financial corporations accounted for the largest decrease in liabilities in debt securities, at SEK 42 billion.
  • Both bonds and money market instruments decreased respectively by SEK 16 billion and SEK 26 billion.
  • Behind the decrease for non-financial corporations is mainly money market instruments denominated in euros at a value of SEK 25 billion.

Maturity structure

  • Debt securities valued at SEK 2 230 billion will reach maturity within six months. Just over half are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
  • Unsecured debt securities from monetary financial institutions represent the majority of the maturity value within six months, SEK 1 115 billion, in which the majority is issued in foreign currency, mainly US dollars. For other sectors, the maturity value is mainly in Swedish kronor.
