Labour market remains subdued

In June 2025, there were 5 402 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. The number of hours worked per week averaged 154.3 million. In calendar-adjusted figures, this corresponds to a decrease of 2,3 percent. The number of unemployed people was 559 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the number of employed people and in the employment rate. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed unemployment rate was 8.7 percent.

- The labor market continues to be subdued in June. The number of hours worked is decreasing while unemployment remains at a higher level, not seasonally adjusted. Nevertheless, some positive signs can be seen, for example, employment is increasing seasonally adjusted and smoothed, says Lena Johansson, statistician at the Labour Force Surveys at SCB.

Labour force

In June 2025, there were 5 960 000 people aged 15–74 in the labour force, not seasonally adjusted. There were 2 817 000 women in the labour force and the number of men amounted to 3 143 000. The labour force participation rate was 78.2 percent. Among women, the labour force participation rate was 75.0 percent, down 1.7 percentage points, and for men it was 81.2 percent.

Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the number and the share of people in the labour force, compared to recent months. There were 5 772 000 people in the labour force, corresponding to a labour force participation rate of 75.7 percent.

Employment

The number of employed people aged 15-74 amounted to 5 402 000 in June 2025, not seasonally adjusted. There were 2 577 000 employed women and 2 825 000 employed men. The employment rate was 70.9 percent. Among women the employment rate was 68.6 percent and for men it was 73.0 percent.

According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, 5 272 000 people aged 15–74 were employed and the employment rate was 69.1 percent, representing an increase in both the number and the share of employed people, compared to recent months.

Employees

In June 2025, there were 4 901 000 employees, according to non-seasonally adjusted data. Among women there were 2 432 000 employees and the corresponding number for men was 2 469 000. The number of permanent employees amounted to 4 131 000 of which 2 002 000 were women and 2 129 000 were men. The number of temporary employees amounted to 770 000. Among women there were 430 000 temporary employees and for men the corresponding number was 341 000.

The number of employees increased compared to recent months and amounted to 4 787 000 according to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data. Of these, 4 153 000 were permanent employees and 634 000 were temporary employees. Compared to recent months, both the number of permanent employees and temporary employees increased.

Hours worked

Total hours worked in June 2025 averaged 154.3 million per week, according to non-seasonally adjusted data. In calendar-adjusted figures, this corresponds to a decrease of 2.3 percent compared to the corresponding month in the previous year.

Compared to recent months, seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show a decrease in the number of hours worked. The number of hours worked averaged 154.8 million per week.

Unemployment

In June 2025, 559 000 people aged 15–74 were unemployed, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent. There were 240 000 unemployed women and 319 000 unemployed men. The unemployment rate was 8.5 percent for women and 10.1 percent for men. The number of people in long-term unemployment (unemployed for at least 27 weeks) amounted to 146 000. Of these, 73 000 were women and 73 000 were men. The number of unemployed young people aged 15–24 amounted to 256 000. The youth unemployment rate was 29.7 percent. Among unemployed young people, 148 000 were full-time students.

According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, there were 500 000 unemployed people aged 15–74, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.7 percent. Among young people aged 15–24 the number of unemployed amounted to 164 000. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 23.7 percent.

Unused labour supply

Collectively, unemployed people, underemployed people and latent jobseekers constitute the unused labour supply. In June 2025, the unused labour supply averaged 29.7 million hours per week. The unused labour supply corresponds to 743 000 full-time jobs with 40-hour working weeks.
