The number of permanent employees increased by 99 000

In January 2018, there were 4 969 000 employed persons aged 15–74, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 88 000 persons compared with January 2017. There were 3 796 000 permanent employees, an increase of 99 000. The number of hours worked averaged 150.2 million per week, an increase of 2.4 percent in calendar adjusted figures. There were 376 000 unemployed persons, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 7.0 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the employment rate and a decrease in the unemployment rate, which was 6.5 percent.

In January 2018, there were 4 969 000 employed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which was an increase of 88 000 compared with January 2017. The number of employed men was 2 593 000, an increase of 42 000, and the number of employed women increased by 46 000 to 2 376 000. The employment rate was 66.8 percent. Among women the employment rate was 64.9 percent and among men it was 68.6 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in both the number of employed persons and the employment rate compared with recent months. There were 5 061 000 employed persons, which corresponds to an employment rate of 68.1 percent.

The number of employees aged 15─74 in January 2018 increased by 106 000 and amounted to 4 489 000, not seasonally adjusted. Among men the number of employees was 2 254 000, an increase of 56 000. Among women the number of employees increased by 50 000 to 2 234 000. The number of permanent employees in the same period increased by 99 000 and amounted to 3 796 000. Among men the number of permanent employees was 1 948 000, an increase of 45 000. Among women the number of permanent employees increased by 54 000 to 1 848 000. There were 693 000 temporary employees. The number of employees in the private sector increased by 98 000 and amounted to 3 008 000. This was the seventh consecutive month that the number of private sector employees increased. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of permanent employees and in the number of temporary employees.

On average, the number of hours worked in January 2018 amounted to 150.2 million per week, not seasonally adjusted. Calendar-adjusted figures show an increase of 2.4 percent compared with January 2017. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of hours worked per week. On average, the number of hours worked amounted to 154.5 million per week in January 2018.

In January 2018, there were 376 000 unemployed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 7.0 percent. There were 197 000 unemployed men and 179 000 unemployed women. The unemployment rate was 7.1 percent among men and 7.0 percent among women. There were 102 000 unemployed young people aged 15─24, of whom 57 000 were full-time students. The unemployment rate among young people was 17.2 percent. Among persons aged 15–74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 352 000 unemployed persons in January 2018, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.5 percent. Among young people aged 15─24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 108 000 unemployed young people, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 17.1 percent, according to smoothed and seasonally adjusted data.
