On December 31, 2025, Sweden had a total of 5,002,600 households, an increase from 4,972,000 in the previous year. In 2025, the number of households increased by 30,600, which is an increase of nearly one percent.
The most common type of household at the end of 2025 was single-person households without children, accounting for 42 percent of all households. The second most common household type was cohabiting couples without children (24 percent of all households) followed by cohabiting couples with children aged 0–24 (20 percent of all households). Among households with children, one child is roughly as common as two children, while there are fewer households with three or more children.
