The decision in brief

Higher-level weights used in the compilation of the CPI, HICP and other related measures of consumer side inflation are updated by Statistics Sweden on an annual basis. The update is introduced with the January publication. Normally, the weight updates are based on information about household expenditure from two years ago, but in years 2021-2023 Statistics Sweden deviated from this praxis by taking consumption shifts during the year before into account when compiling the weights. In 2024, Statistics Sweden will again make use of the adjusted method for the compilation of weights for the HICP and CPI.
