Producer prices decreased in April 2017

Producer prices decreased by 0.3 percent between March and April. In the same period, prices increased by 0.4 percent on the import market and by 0.3 percent on the export market. Prices decreased by 0.7 percent on the domestic market.
Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, decreased by 0.2 percent from March to April.
On the domestic market, seasonal price reductions in district heating, and price reductions in electricity contributed to the decline. In the export and import markets, among other things, higher prices on metals contributed to the increase of the monthly rate.
Producer prices have increased compared with April of last year
Compared with April last year, producer prices have increased by 7.2 percent. In the same period, prices on the export market and the import market increased by 9.0 percent and 8.4 percent respectively. On the domestic market, prices increased by 5.6 percent during the same period. Prices for domestic supply increased by 7.1 percent compared with April last year.
Higher prices on metal products contributed to the annual increase on all markets. Producer prices on metal products have increased by 19.6 percent during the last year. Higher prices for energy related goods contributed to an increase in the annual rate. Compared with April of last year, prices for energy related goods have increased by 20.5 percent.

Changes in exchange rates in April
An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona appreciated against the Norwegian krone by 2.4 percent, against the US dollar by 1.4 percent and against the British pound by 1.3 percent. The Swedish currency depreciated by 0.7 percent against the Danish krone and the euro.

New product classification
As of this publication, the Producer and Import Price Index is published according to both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015. Price indices according to both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. During 2019, price indices will be available by SPIN 2015 only. As of the publication of indices for January 2018, the dissemination in the statistical news will be based on SPIN 2015, with base year 2015=100. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when available.
The differences between the two classifications are small. Most changes occur within Divisions in Sections A-E. For more information on both classifications (available only in Swedish), please see:
