Producer prices increased in October 2019

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2019-11-26 9.30

The Producer Price Index increased by 0.4 percent between September and October 2019. In the same period, prices on the export market increased by 0.4 percent and prices on the domestic market increased by 0.2 percent. However, prices on the import market decreased by 0.2 percent. Domestic supply prices, that is, producer prices on the domestic market and import prices together, remained unchanged between September and October.

Changes during the last month

The main contributor to the decrease on the import market was lower crude oil prices. Higher prices for machinery and equipment and for electritity offset the decrease.

On the export market, higher prices for electritity, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, as well as machinery and equipment contributed to the increase. This increase was offset by lower prices for basic metals.

Price increases for electricity and for steam and air conditioning supply services contributed upward on the domestic market. Nevertheless, lower prices for food products and waste collection services offset the increase.

Compared with the previous month, prices for electricity have increased on all markets. However, on an annual basis the prices have declined.

Changes during the last year

The Producer Price Index annual rate in October was 0.9 percent (0.3 percent in September). Prices on the export market increased by 1.2 percent between October 2018 and October 2019. The annual rate on the import market was -0.9 percent. The annual rate on the domestic market was 0.4 percent, while the price index for domestic supply was -0.3 percent.
