Household consumption increased in May 2021

Household consumption increased by 2.6 percent in May 2021 compared with April 2021, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, calculated in fixed prices and working day adjusted. Compared with May 2020, household consumption increased by 8.8 percent, measured in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, March-May 2021, consumption increased by 7.2 percent in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures, compared with the same period in 2020.
The largest weighted positive contribution came from the sector transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles, which increased by 24.4 percent in fixed prices compared with May a year ago.
Other goods and services accounted for the only negative contribution to total consumption and decreased by 8.7 percent in fixed prices compared with May a year ago.
The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact household consumption in March 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.
Prices increased by 1.8 percent according to the consumption deflator.
