Weaker trade in imports of goods in January

In January 2024, exports of goods decreased by 2 percent in value while it remained the same in volume compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods decreased by 5 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume.

Compared with the previous month, Swedish exports of goods increased by 5 percent in value and by 6 percent in volume. At the same time, Swedish imports of goods decreased by 2 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume. The number of weekdays in January 2024 was three more than in December 2023.

Exports of minerals decreased by 26 percent in value and by 22 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of iron ore and concentrates decreased by 61 percent in both value and volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of iron ore and concentrates decreased by 55 percent in value and by 52 percent in volume.

Exports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 21 percent in value and by 11 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Compared with the previous month, exports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 7 percent in both value and in volume.

Exports of machinery and transport equipment products increased by 10 percent in value and by 7 percent in volume, compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of lorries/trucks increased by 34 percent in value and by 19 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of lorries/trucks increased by 22 percent in value and by 19 percent in volume.

Imports of wood and paper products decreased by 15 percent in value and by 1 percent volume compared with the same period last year. Compared with the previous month, imports of wood and paper products increased by 14 percent in value and by 15 percent in volume.

Imports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 13 percent in value and by 3 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area imports of petroleum products decreased by 30 percent in value and by 25 percent in volume.

Within the product area, other products, imports of food/beverages/tobacco increased by 3 percent in value and by 2 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, imports of food/beverages/tobacco increased by 1 percent in value while it decreased by 1 percent in volume.
