Increased value for trade in goods in July compared with last year

In July 2022, exports of goods increased by 20 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period a year ago. At the same time, imports of goods rose by 31 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume.

- Increased prices on mineral fuels and electric current contributed to an increased value of trade in goods compared with the same period last year, says Elin Bäckström, statistician at Statistics Sweden.

Compared with the previous month, Swedish exports of goods decreased by 16 percent both in value and in volume. At the same time Swedish imports of goods decreased by 13 percent in value and by 15 percent in volume. The number of weekdays in July 2022 was one more than in June 2022.

Exports of chemicals and rubber products increased by 28 percent in value and by 15 percent in volume, compared with the same period last year. The increase in value is the result of higher prices on chemicals and rubber products. Compared with the previous month, exports of chemicals and rubber products decreased by 18 percent in value and by 19 percent in volume.

Exports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 106 percent in value and by 24 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. The large difference between the value and volume trends is due to higher prices on petroleum products in July 2022. Compared with the previous month, exports of mineral fuels and electric current decreased by 12 percent in value while they remained unchanged in volume.

Exports of other products increased by 19 percent in value while they decreased by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, exports of food/beverages/tobacco increased by 24 percent in value while they decreased by 1 percent in volume. Compared with the previous month, exports of food/beverages/tobacco decreased by 2 percent in value and by 7 percent in volume.

Imports of wood and paper products increased by 30 percent in value while they decreased by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. The increase in value is the result of higher prices on wood and paper products. Compared with the previous month, imports of wood and paper products decreased by 17 percent in value and by 20 percent in volume.

Imports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 149 percent in value and by 24 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. The large difference between the value and volume trends is due to higher prices on crude petroleum oils in July 2022. Compared with the previous month, imports of mineral fuels and electric current increased by 19 percent in value and by 27 percent in volume.

Imports of other products increased by 20 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume compared with the same period last year. Within this product area, imports of food/beverages/tobacco increased by 25 percent in value and by 1 percent in volume. The large difference between the value and volume trends is due to higher prices on food/beverages/tobacco in July 2022. Compared with the previous month, imports of food/beverages/tobacco decreased by 5 percent in value and by 4 percent in volume.
