Net trade balance at SEK -4.0 billion in October

In October 2019, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 137.0 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 141.0 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK -4.0 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK 4.0 billion in October 2019, according to preliminary calculations. In October 2018, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 9.0 billion.
The value of exports in October was SEK 137.0 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 141.0 billion. Compared with October 2018, exports increased by 1 percent in value, while imports decreased by 3 percent in value.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 15.9 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 19.9 billion.
The number of weekdays in October 2019 was the same as in October 2018.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade balance showed a deficit of SEK 1.0 billion in October, compared with a deficit of SEK 0.1 billion in September. The corresponding figure for August was a surplus of SEK 1.2 billion.
Net trade (Jan – Oct 2019) surplus of SEK 17.7 billion
In this period, the value of exports of goods increased by 6 percent, and the value of imports of goods increased by 2 percent compared with the corresponding period one year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 1 270.5 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1 252.8 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 17.7 billion for January – October 2019. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a deficit of SEK 36.0 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
