Net trade balance at SEK 1.4 billion in September

In September 2018, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 122.3 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 120.9 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 1.4 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 1.4 billion in September 2018, according to preliminary calculations. In September 2017, there was a net trade surplus of SEK 2.4 billion.
The value of exports in September was SEK 122.3 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 120.9 billion. Compared with September 2017, exports increased by 9 percent in value, while imports increased by 10 percent in value.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 12.2 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 10.8 billion.
The number of weekdays in September 2018 was one less compared with September 2017.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade deficit amounted to SEK 0.9 billion in September, compared with a deficit of SEK 1.3 billion in August. The corresponding figure for July was a deficit of SEK 2.0 billion.
Net trade (Jan – Sep 2018) showed a deficit of SEK 23.4 billion
In this period, the value of exports of goods increased by 10 percent, while the value of imports of goods increased by 12 percent compared with the corresponding period last year. Exports were valued at SEK 1056.4 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1079.8 billion, resulting in a net trade deficit of SEK 23.4 billion for January – September 2018. The corresponding net trade balance for these months last year was a deficit of SEK 5.1 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
