The number of permanently employed women is increasing

In May 2018, there were 5 101 000 employed persons aged 15–74, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 118 000 persons compared with May 2017. Among women the number of permanent employees was 1 892 000, an increase of 82 000. The number of hours worked averaged 159.8 million per week, an increase of 3.5 percent in calendar adjusted figures. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 35 000 to 352 000, which corresponds to a decrease of the unemployment rate by 0.7 percentage points to 6.5 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the employment rate and a decrease in the unemployment rate, which was 6.2 percent.

In May 2018, there were 5 101 000 employed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which was an increase of 118 000 compared with May 2017. The number of employed women increased by 78 000 to 2 445 000 and the number of men increased by 40 000 to 2 656 000. The employment rate increased by 1.1 percentage points to 68.5 percent. Among men, the employment rate was 70.1 and among women, it was 66.7 percent, an increase of 1.6 percentage points. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in the number of employed persons and in the employment rate compared with recent months. In May 2018, there were 5 103 000 employed persons, which corresponds to an employment rate of 68.5 percent.

The number of employees aged 15─74 increased by 138 000 to 4 613 000 in May 2018, compared with May 2017, not seasonally adjusted. Among women, the number of employees was 2 309 000, an increase of 88 000. Among men, the number of employees increased by 50 000 to 2 304 000. The number of permanent employees increased by 110 000 to 3 860 000 in the same period. Among men, the number of permanent employees amounted to 1 968 000, which is not a significant change compared to May 2017. Among women, the number of permanent employees was 1 892 000, an increase of 82 000. There were 753 000 temporary employees. In the private sector, there was an increase of 92 000 employees to 3 073 000. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the total number of employees. The number of permanent employees increased and the number of temporary employees decreased.

On average, the number of hours worked in May 2018 amounted to 159.8 million per week, not seasonally adjusted, an increase of 3.5 percent in calendar adjusted figures. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data also shows an increase in the number of hours worked per week compared with recent months. On average, the number of hours worked amounted to 156.3 million per week in May 2018.

In May 2018, the number of unemployed persons aged 15─74 decreased by 35 000 to 352 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.5 percent, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points. There were 207 000 unemployed men and 145 000 unemployed women, a decrease by 34 000. The unemployment rate was 7.2 percent among men and 5.6 percent among women, a decrease of 1.4 percentage points. Among young people aged 15─24, there were 115 000 unemployed people, a decrease of 24 000, of whom 85 000 were full-time students. The unemployment rate among young people was 18.4 percent, a decrease of 3.4 percentage points. Among persons aged 15–74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease both in the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 335 000 unemployed persons in May 2018, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent. Among young people aged 15─24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a decrease in both the number of unemployed persons and the unemployment rate. There were 97 000 unemployed young people, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 15.6 percent.
