Food sales 2015:

Sales of food in 2015 increased mostly due to increased prices

Swedish sales of food and beverages amounted to SEK 259 billion in 2015. This is an increase of roughly SEK 10 billion, or 4.1 percent, compared with 2014. Adjusted for price changes, the increase was 1.5 percent.

The largest increase in sales of food and non-alcoholic beverages was in the category oils and fats, which increased by 12.5 percent. However, this is a small category, and changes have a large impact. The total value of sales of oils and fats amounted to SEK 6 billion in 2015. Vegetables increased by 9.5 percent, and SEK 24 billion in total was spent on vegetables in 2015. Adjusted for price changes, the increase was 2.6 percent from 2014. The sales of fruit increased by 8.6 percent in 2015. However, this was exclusively due to an increase in prices, as the sales volume decreased by 0.1 percent.

Sales of fish decreased by 2.9 percent in 2015. The sales volume decreased even more, by 9 percent, which means that the decrease was partly compensated by increased prices.
