  • More people wanted to change jobs during the high inflation

    When the inflation was high in 2022–2023, more women entered the labour force and full-time employed men wanted to work more hours. Permanent employees also looked for and switched jobs during the high inflation. A new report from Statistics Sweden’s Labour Force Surveys (LFS) shows how the labour supply was affected in terms of labour force participation, desired working hours and employees seeking new employment.

  • More employed persons but a remaining elevated level of unemployment

    In November 2025, there were 5 275 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. This represents an increase of 73 000 compared to November 2024. The number of hours worked per week averaged 171.4 million. The number of unemployed people was 470 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed employment rate was 69.0 percent. Both the number and the share of unemployed people increased, seasonally adjusted and smoothed. The unemployment rate stood at 9.0 percent.

  • More young people in the labour force

    In October 2025, the number of young people in the labour force increased by 54 000, and amounted to 643 000, not seasonally adjusted. There were 5 214 000 employed people and the number of hours worked per week averaged 178.1 million. The number of unemployed people increased by 71 000 to 509 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent, an increase of 1.1 percentage points. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed employment rate was 68.9 percent. Both the number and the share of unemployed people increased, seasonally adjusted and smoothed. The unemployment rate stood at 9.0 percent.

  • Restrained labour market in the third quarter

    In the third quarter of 2025, the number of employed people amounted to 5 324 000, not seasonally adjusted. The average number of hours worked per week amounted to 138.9 million hours. There were 478 000 unemployed people, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent. According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data the employment rate amounted to 68.9 percent and the unemployment rate amounted to 8.7 percent.

  • Unemployment remains at a higher level

    In September 2025, there were 5 238 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. The number of hours worked per week averaged 174.9 million. The number of unemployed people was 476 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed employment rate was 68.9 percent and the unemployment rate stood at 8.7 percent.
