Trend reversal as GDP falls

GDP fell in the third quarter by 0.2 percent, seasonally adjusted and compared with the previous quarter. This breaks nine consecutive quarters of positive growth. The last time GDP decreased was five years ago. The downturn is explained mainly by diminished household consumption and lower changes in stocks.
