Slight upturn for producer prices in October 2017

Producer prices increased by 0.3 percent between September and October. In the same period, prices increased by 0.1 percent on the export as well as on the import market. Prices on the domestic market increased by 0.5 percent.

Domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased by 0.3 percent from September to October.

Changes during the last month

A seasonal normal upturn on district heating contributed to the increase on the domestic market. On the export market, mainly higher prices for pulp, paper and paperboard contributed to the upturn, as well as higher prices for basic metals and chemical and chemical products. On the import market, higher prices for crude oil, basic metals and chemical and chemical products contributed to the upturn. The upturn was offset by lower prices for electricity on all three markets. On the import market, the upturn was also offset by lower prices on computer, electronics and optical products.

Changes during the last year

In the last year, producer prices, that is producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, have increased by 2.5 percent. In the same period, prices on the import and the export market increased by 2.5 percent and by 1.5 percent, respectively. On the domestic market, prices increased by 3.4 percent. Prices for domestic supply increased by 3.0 percent compared to the same period last year.

Changes in exchange rates from September to October

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish kronor. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish krona depreciated against the British pound by 3.4 percent, and against the euro as well as the Danish krone by 0.1 percent. The Swedish krona appreciated against the US dollar by 1.9 percent and against the Norwegian krone by 0.6 percent.

New product classification

SPIN 2015 in the statistical database. Both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available according to SPIN 2015. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when it is available.
