Changes in the last month

Prices increased on both the export and the import market, while they fell on the domestic market from September to October. Despite price declines on the domestic market, the producer price index and the price index for domestic supply increased.

On the domestic market, downward contributions came mainly from lower prices on electricity. In October, prices fell on electricity after increases in both August and September. This was somewhat offset by seasonally normal rising prices for district heating and higher prices for processed and preserved meat, and dairy products.

The main contribution to the upturn on the export market came from higher prices on motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, as well as machinery and equipment. Prices also increased on basic metals, electrical equipment and sawn and planed wood. The upturn was offset by falling electricity prices also on the export market. Like the domestic market, this decline followed price increases in August and September.

Higher prices on motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers was the main contributor to the upturn on the import market. Prices also increased on basic metals, chemicals and chemical products, crude oil, electrical equipment and machinery and equipment, which all contributed upwards. The price development for communication equipment and computer and peripheral equipment, which are included in the same product group, was in the opposite direction. Prices increased on communication equipment, whereas prices fell on computer and peripheral equipment. There were also price declines on pharmaceutical preparations.
