Increased sales of organic products in 2014

Swedish sales of food and beverages amounted to SEK 249 billion during 2014. This is an increase of roughly SEK 8 billion compared to 2013. Organic goods accounted for 6 percent of all sales of food and non- alcoholic beverages in 2014.

The share of organic goods of all sales of food and non-alcoholic beverages has increased by 1.7 percentage points compared with 2013.The total sales value increased by almost 45 percent. Fruit has passed fish as the product group with the largest proportion of organic sales. Organic sales account for 13.3 percent of the total sales value of fruit. Fish is not far behind with 13.1 percent.

Fruit was also the product group with the largest increase in sales value of organic products during 2014. The increase in organic sales value was 85 percent during 2014.

Sales of sweets and beer increased the most

The total sales increase of food and beverages of SEK 8 billion corresponds to an increase of 3.3 percent, which is because the volume of sold food and beverages increased by roughly 2.7 percent at the same time that prices increased by 0.5 percent. The product group sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery increased the most of all groups of food and non-alcoholic beverages in 2014. The total sales value was SEK 26 billion which is an increase of 4.9 percent compared to 2013. The product group accounts for over 12 percent of total sales of food and non-alcoholic beverages in 2014.

When alcoholic beverages are included, beer has the largest increase in sales between 2013 and 2014 at 7.9 percent. The sales of beer with an alcohol level of maximum 3.5 percent have increased to a greater extent than beer with a higher alcohol level. The two groups of beer increased by 16.4 and 5.4 percent respectively.
