Drought that arose after the spring sowings, as well as later during the growing season, led to a drop in crop yields in some regions. However, most parts of the country noted normal rainfall. In Norrland, persistent autumn rains delayed the harvest, and parts of the areas will likely remain unharvested.

Winter wheat areas declined by 20 000 hectares compared with last year’s record areas, and the total yield decreased by 260 000 tonnes. Half of the total cereal harvest consists of winter wheat.

The oats areas increased by 35 000 hectares; the total oats harvest increased by 144 000 tonnes and amounted to 815 500 tonnes, making it the largest oats harvest since 2013.

Rape and turnip harvest decreased by 10 percent

The preliminary estimate of the total production of rape and turnip is 344 100 tonnes, which is 10 percent less than a year ago. This decrease is mainly due to a smaller hectare yield and a smaller area for the dominating winter rape. The total harvest of rape and turnip was 7 percent larger this year than the five-year average.

Total harvest of peas matches last year’s level

The total production of peas is estimated at 74 300 tonnes, which is on a level with both last year’s harvest and the five-year average. The preliminary estimate of the total production of field beans is 56 500 tonnes, which is on a level with last year’s total harvest, but 31 percent below the five-year average.

Time series with the final harvest statistics are available in Statistics Sweden’s statistical database Statistics Sweden's Statistical Database and the Swedish Board of Agriculture’s statistical database www.jordbruksverket.se. The Swedish Board of Agriculture’s statistical database also contains preliminary harvest statistics. Time series on harvest statistics are available from 1913 onwards for some of the crops.

These preliminary statistics are based on data from a subsample of 1 110 farms. More accurate results based on the entire sample of 4 442 farms will be presented on 14 December in the Statistical Report JO 19 SM 2002. The results will then also be published by county and by the eight production areas of agriculture.
