The number of sick days per employee during a sick pay period increased during the third quarter in 2017 compared with the same quarter in 2016. The total number of sick days per employee during a sick pay period was 1.27.
In total, the number of sick days per employee increased by 0.06 days compared with the same quarter in 2016. Among women the sick pay period increased by 0.06 days compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The number of sick pay period among men increased by 0.06.
The number of sick days per employee increased in the business sector by 0.06, in central government sector by 0.05. In county councils the sick days per employee increased by 0.07 days and in municipalities the sick days per employee increased 0.08 compared to the corresponding period in 2016. In the third quarter, total sick pay was paid for an average of 1.02 days per employee.

The number of sick periods increased
The number of sick periods per employee increased in the third quarter of 2017 compared to the corresponding period in 2016. The total number of sick periods was 0.32 per employee. In the business sector the number of sick periods per employee was 0.30, while in the central government sector it amounted to 0.26. In the municipality sector and the county council sector the number of sick periods per employee was 0.41 and 0.37 respectively. In the non-profit institutions, serving households sector the number of sick periods per employee was 0.22.

New design from second quarter 2011
Changes have been made to the survey design that have affected estimation levels. Comparisons with previous quarters should be made with caution.
New classification from second quarter 2015
A new classification of sectors has been introduced from the second quarter of 2015. The private sector has been primarily affected, now that the non-profit institutions serving households sector is reported separately. As a result of this change, the private sector is referred to as the business sector. The public sector (municipality, county council and central government) is affected only marginally by the change.
Sick pay period The period when an employee is absent from work due to sickness and is eligible for sick pay.
Sick days All calendar days in the sick period, regardless of whether the employee is reimbursed for all days with sick pay or not.
Sick period Each time an employee begins a sick period a new period is generated, regardless of how many sick days the period consists of. The survey presents periods that were completed during the quarter.
This survey is published quarterly. The surveys for 2002-2005 have been published on the website of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.
