Swedens population 2018 – population changes

Population still increasing, but at a slower rate

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2019-02-21 9.30

At the end of 2018, Sweden’s population was 10 230 185. It had thereby increased by 109 943 persons – 50 167 women and 59 776 men. Compared with the previous year, this was a decrease of 12.1 percent, or 15 146 persons.

The population increased for two reasons. Birth rates were higher than death rates, which accounted for 22 percent, and immigration rates were higher than emigration rates, which accounted for 78 percent of the population increase.
