Net trade balance at SEK -1.7 billion in December

In December 2017, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 109.2 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 110.9 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK -1.7 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade deficit of SEK 1.7 billion in December 2017, according to preliminary calculations. In December 2016, the net trade deficit was SEK 1.4 billion.
The value of exports in December 2017 was SEK 109.2 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 110.9 billion. Compared with December 2016, both exports and imports remained unchanged in percentage terms.
Trade with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 14.5 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 16.2 billion.
The number of weekdays in December 2017 was two less compared with December 2016.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade surplus amounted to SEK 0.4 billion in December 2017, compared with a surplus of SEK 0.5 billion in November 2017. The corresponding figure for October 2017 was a surplus of SEK 0.4 billion.
Net trade in 2017 showed a deficit of SEK 3.9 billion
During this period, the value of exports increased by 10 percent compared with 2016, while the value of imports increased by 9 percent. Exports amounted to SEK 1306.9 billion and imports were valued at SEK 1310.8 billion, resulting in a deficit net trade balance of 3.9 billion in 2017. The corresponding deficit figure in 2016 was SEK 14.7 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
