In 2024, there were approximately 266,400 organisations in the civil society, an increase of just under 700 organisations compared with 2023. As in previous years, non-profit associations were the legal form that accounted for most civil society organisations. In 2024, there were 164,250 non-profit associations in civil society, corresponding to about 61.7 percent of the total number or organisations. The financial situation of non-profit organisations improved between 2023 and 2024, driven by an increase in financial income. The profit after financial income and expenses increased by 24,0 percent to 81,9 billion SEK in 2024’s price level. 3.9 percent of all employed people in Sweden worked in civil society in 2024, corresponding to 204,000 individuals. For reference year 2024 data on the number of people employed in civil society by age and level of education are also presented for the first time.
