Insurance companies’ capital investments have increased

In the third quarter of 2020, the market value of insurance companies’ investment assets rose to SEK 5 489 billion. This can be compared with SEK 5 269 billion at the end of the previous quarter, and SEK 5 223 billion in the third quarter of 2019. Net investments in this industry amounted to SEK 7 billion in the quarter.
Strong development in shares and participations
The market value of insurance companies’ holdings in shares and participations increased by SEK 248 billion in the third quarter from SEK 3 301 billion to SEK 3 549 billion. Insurance companies’ total net investments amounted to SEK 52 billion in shares and participations, of which foreign shares accounted for SEK 21 billion and investment funds accounted for SEK 22 billion.
Development was primarily driven by Swedish quoted shares. The market value of interest-bearing products noted little change in the third quarter, both for non-life and life insurance companies.
The rising market value of insurance companies’ capital investments was reflected in both the non-life and the life insurance sector. The distribution between non-life and life insurance companies is presented below.
