At the end of May, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 439 billion, down by SEK 3 billion from April.
Developments in May 2026 in brief
Decreased liabilites in money market instruments and increased liabilities in bonds
- At the end of May, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 439 billion, of which bonds accounted for 82 percent and money market instruments accounted for 18 percent.
- During the month, liabilities decreased in money market instruments by SEK 28 billion, and the liabilities in bonds increased by SEK 24 billion.
- The liabilities denominated in Swedish Kronas increased by a total of SEK 47 billion, while it decreased in liabilities denominated in foreign currencies by SEK 51 billion.
- The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 0.7 percent in May, an increase by 0.6 percentage points from April.
Decreased borrowing by Monetary financial institutions in May
- In May, it was monetary financial institutions that accounted for the largest decrease in debt securities, with total debt decreasing by SEK 29 billion.
- Non-financial corporations and Sveriges Riksbank, on the other hand, increased their debt securities during the period by SEK 22 billion and SEK 10 billion, respectively.

Maturity structure
- Debt securities valued at SEK 1 719 billion will reach maturity within six months, excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank. Approximately 60 percent of these securities are denominated in foreign currency.
- Debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for 67 percent of the total maturity value within six months (excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank), of which the majority is issued in foreign currency.

Green debt securities
- Green debt securities amounted to SEK 1 106 billion in May, up by SEK 18 billion from April.
- Monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase during the month, up by SEK 8 billion.
- Monetary financial institutions are still the largest issuer of green debt securities, in total of SEK 515 billion. However, local government issue the largest share of green debt securities in relation to their total outstanding amount (41 percent).
