Among the new dwellings, approximately 11 150 were in multi-dwelling buildings, an increase of 4 percent compared with the same period last year. In one- or two-dwelling buildings, construction of 2 250 dwellings was started in the first quarter, about 700 fewer than last year.

In addition, conversion of multi-dwelling buildings resulted in 550 dwellings started the first quarter of 2019, compared with 739 dwellings in the corresponding period in 2018.
