ESA 2010 – the Swedish national accounts adapt to the new EU regulations
General information
The national accounts are steered by the regulations in the System of National Accounts (SNA) that have been prepared by the UN. The regulations are updated regularly and are adapted to the economic developments. SNA2008 was approved in 2008.
The national accounts within the EU are controlled by the ESA (The European System of National and Regional Accounts) which is an adaptation of SNA to European conditions. The EU Commission proposed in December 2010 that a revision of these regulations should be made. ESA 2010 is largely in agreement with BPM6 (Balance of Payments Manual). This manual is used to make calculations of the balance of payments, and publishing according to BPM6 will occur in December 2014.
The new regulations will be put into use during 2014, and the Swedish national accounts according to the new ESA will be published for the first time in September 2014.
In connection with the new regulations, a review of data sources in the current national accounts will be made. The results of this work will be presented at the same time as the switch-over to ESA 2010.
