The industry's issuance of green securities, 2025
Industry increases share of green securities
Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2025-06-25 8.00
In recent years, the share of green securities issued by Swedish industrial corporations has increased in relation to their total liabilities in debt securities.
– This is a trend seen among all Swedish issuers, but it is particularly pronounced within the industrial sector, says Hanna Helgesson, economist at Statistics Sweden.
As of March 31, 2025, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9,427 billion, of which green securities accounted for approximately 10 percent. This is a doubling compared to 5 percent three years earlier.
For industrial corporations, the increase has been even more significant during the same period. At the end of March 2025, more than one quarter of their debt securities liabilities were allocated to environmentally and climate-friendly projects.
– The increase in the share of green securities in the industrial sector is partly due to a decrease in non-green securities during this period, explains Hanna Helgesson.
Large foreign ownership of industry’s green securities
Foreign investors hold a large share of the industrial sector’s green securities. At the end of March 2025, 62 percent of these securities were owned by foreign investors. Of the 38 percent held by Swedish investors, investment funds accounted for about half in terms of value.
