The inflation rate according to the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF) was 1.9 percent in February 2019, down from 2.0 percent in January 2019. The CPIF increased by 0.7 percent from January to February. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF also rose by 0.7 percent. The inflation rate according to the CPI was 1.9 percent in February 2019.
The increase in the CPI from January to February 2019 was mainly due to higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3 percent), clothing (5.3 percent) and higher transport costs (1.3 percent), which contributed upwards by 0.2 percentage point each. In the group for food and non-alcoholic beverages, higher prices for vegetables (3.3 percent) and in the group for transport costs, higher prices for fuels and lubricants (2.8 percent) contributed upwards by 0.1 percentage point each. Price increases for health (1.7 percent), package holidays (7.1 percent), restaurants and hotels (1.0 percent) and increased interest rates for owner-occupied housing (2.2 percent) contributed upwards by 0.1 percentage point each.
These increases were offset by lower costs for electricity (-2.5 percent), which contributed 0.1 percentage point downwards in February.
The CPI in February 2019 was 331.02 (1980=100).
The inflation rate according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 1.9 percent in February 2019, down from 2.0 percent in January. The HICP increased by 0.7 percent from January to February. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP increased by 0.8 percent.
