Changes in the last month
The monthly rate of change was negative in the domestic and import markets, but positive in the export market in June. This resulted in a positive monthly rate of change for Producer Price Index and a negative monthly rate of change for Price Index for Domestic Supply during the same period.
The largest negative contribution in the domestic market came from lower prices for refined petroleum products. Prices also fell for basic chemicals and food products. This downturn was partially offset by higher prices for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning, rubber and plastic products as well as basic metals.
In the export market there were several smaller price increses that contributed upward. Among these were prices for motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, other machinery and equipment, rubber and plastic products, fabricated metal products, basic metals and pulp, paper and paperboard. Prices also increased for food products and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. This upturn was partially offset by price decreases for refined petroleum products and basic chemicals.
The main contribution to the decrease in the import market came from lower prices for crude oil. Prices also fell for refined petroleum products and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning. This downturn was partially offset by higher prices for computers and peripheral equipment, basic metals, rubber and plastic products, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, other machinery and equipment and electrical equipment.
