Changes in the last month
The monthly rate of change was positive in the export and import markets, but negative in the domestic market in April. This resulted in a positive monthly rate of change for both Producer Price Index and Price Index for Domestic Supply during the same period.
The largest negative contributions in the domestic market came from lower prices for electricity, transmission and distribution services and district heating. Prices also fell for processed tea and coffee. This downturn was offset by higher prices for refined petroleum products, chemicals and chemical products and waste collection, treatment and disposal- and materials recovery services. Prices for plastic products, basic metals and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers also rose.
In the export market the main upward contribution came from higher prices for refined petroleum products. Prices also rose for chemicals and chemical products, pulp, paper and paperboard and motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. Prices also rose for wood and products of wood, plastic products, basic metals and waste collection, treatment and disposal- and materials recovery services. This upturn was partially offset by price decreases for electricity, transmission and distribution services and other general-purpose machinery.
The main contribution to the increase in the import market came from higher prices for crude oil. Prices also rose for chemicals and chemical products, refined petroleum products, basic metals and computers and peripheral equipment. Prices for basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, plastic products and other machinery and equipment also rose.
